Your Garden
There is no reason why your garden can’t be as much of a reflection of your personality as your home. This outdoor environment is a place to relax, reflect and enjoy the company of friends, family and pets, somewhere to grow food and commune with nature or it can be a quiet place to nurture your soul….a sanctuary. And, of course, it can be all these!
Thankfully, because nature produces a variety of gorgeous colours, beige is not dominant!
Whether you have a small courtyard or have acres of land to play with, developing an outdoor space that suits you and your lifestyle can be very rewarding. Adding colour, texture and interest can turn an ordinary garden into an extraordinary garden!
The “instant garden makeover” as portrayed in some magazines and TV shows is another attempt to “cookie cutter” your lifestyle and produce unrealistic expectations of the real time events in the gardening and landscaping calendar. While they can provide some great ideas, developing an outdoor space actually takes time and patience.
Remember, your garden is an extension of your home and should be filled with the things you love. Personally, I love flowers as they provide loads of colour. I also want my garden to provide us with food so I have a variety of vegetables, fruit trees and vines. Intermix these with sculptures, pots, unusual furniture, walls, mosaics, different stones, bricks and hedges and you have a burst of colour and flavour!
We even have a tunnel of passion… Passionfruit of course!
Sometimes great patience is needed when creating you ultimate outdoor environment. You may not have the capability to build structures, make mosaics, pour concrete, lay paving or plant large trees. Friends and family may need to help or tradespeople may need to be paid to do it for you.
Either way, here in lies the beauty of the creation. It's slow, so enjoy!
