Your Home Interior
What does home mean to you?
Home to me, is a place where I can feel safe, secure and comfortable. A place I can retreat to when I am tired, confused, happy or sad. It’s a place I can share with family and friends and create lasting memories. Its’ a place where I can be myself, express my personality and have the things around me that make me happy. It’s a place where I don’t need to worry about what other people think as it’s my place and an expression of who I am. I want my home interior to be all those things.
It’s very easy to buy the “norm” of how our home interior should be. Just look at all the decorating and makeover shows that push the “cookie cutter” lifestyle as the ultimate expression of you!....accept it’s the same as everyone else!!!.
Too many of these bland interior schemes inhabit people lives with countless worrying about whether their home interior is on trend or co-ordinated that they FORGET IT IS THEIR HOME AND CAN DECORATE IT ANYWAY THEY LIKE!!!!!
I stress this point because I have dealt with it for years within the fabric, window and soft furnishing industries. Beige, 20 shades of white, grey and brown are dominant. Home interiors with monotone schemes of grey walls, grey carpet, grey curtains and grey furniture are very common, breeding a cold, uninteresting and very dull home. I think I would wilt like a flower, living somewhere like this. I would be gasping for air to bring me to life and I would feel very sad.
Don’t get me wrong. I know that you love colour (otherwise you probably wouldn’t be reading this) but I also know that you may be afraid to use it freely when decorating your home interior. This may be because you don’t know how or you are worried to make a mistake. Colour is not going to come and bite you on the bum. So don’t be afraid it will wreck your life. Mistakes are part of the journey and if you learn from them then they have been worthwhile. At least, you will know what you don’t like!
So …BUGGER BEIGE! Don’t conform to the norm!
